Carolyn Barnett Workshops At Stix & Stones: Button Making & Introduction To Machine Knitting.

Join us at Stix & Stones May 14 & 15, 2011 as we present two exciting workshops by Designer Carolyn Barnett.

Carolyn creates custom hand loomed knitwear on her home knitting machines and Polymer-Clay Buttons and Accessories at her studio in Kingston, Ontario. Carolyn retails her creations at craft and art shows, including the upcoming Spring One Of A Kind Show in Toronto, as well as to her private clientele and her online Etsy Store.

Carolyn also conducts workshops based on her designs and we have invited her to present the following two workshops:

Button Making Class
Saturday, May 14, 2011
10:00am to 4:00pm
$55 Per Person Plus $20 Material Fee For Polymer Clay and Tools.

In this class we will be learning how to create and design our very own buttons, pins and shawl sticks!

You will be able to choose from a variety of Polymer Clay colours to match an already completed project or to keep for a future project! The end product is absolutely stunning and everyone's projects will turn out so differently from one to the next.

Please visit Carolyn's blog for pictures of her previous classes at http://www.theartofwool.blogspot.com/

The tools and materials used in the class are where the "material fee" comes from and you will be able to take them home as well for future use.

This is going to be a fantastic workshop with great colours and creativity and so many ideas to explore!

Please bring your own lunch with you. We will provide coffee, tea and snacks.

Seating is limited to 15 people and is acknowledged on a first come first serve basis. You must pay for this workshop in advance to ensure your spot. If you have reserved a spot and not yet paid, your spot may be given up to another student. In the event you need to cancel your space, I will provide a refund IF I am able to fill your spot. If I am inable to fill your space, no refund will be issued.

Introduction To Machine Knitting Class
Sunday May 15, 2011
10:00am to 4:00pm
$55 Per Person

In this class we will learn all the basics of using a home knitting machine! This class is limited to 8 people all of which will be able to use a machine for the day OR, if you have a knitting machine, please bring it with you so that you are able to learn on your own machine and so you will be able to get used to it and be comfortable using it again on your own.

We will be making a baby sized hoodie or "sample sized" that can be used as a gift for a loved one or a sample for yourself to reference. We will be using sock weight yarn- self patterning is preferred for this project- which you may bring with you if you have some or you will be able to purchase it in my shop with a 15% discount.

There is a lot of discrimination against knitting machine as people seem to be under the impression that you're "cheating" or not really making it yourself. Well, I say we use sewing machines for making garments instead of sewing it all together by hand, so what is the difference? Spinners commonly use a Spinning Wheel, not just drop spindles. With a home knitting machine you work the machine, it does not work itself automatically. The main bonus is speed: you can make a garment in a fraction of the time and you can also create your own cut and sew fabric very quickly from a knitting machine! Especially Stocking Stitch fabric. There are alot of benefits to both machine and hand knitting and one technique does not weigh out the other.

Machine knitting is an expansion of knowledge in this wonderful craft of knitting and a great way to move your abilities up a level!  Again, this is going to be a fantastic class and I personally cannot wait to expand my knitting knowledge with the machine!

Please bring your own lunch with you. We will provide coffee, tea and snacks.

Seating is limited to 8 people for this Sunday workshop and is acknowledged on a first come first serve basis. You must pay for this workshop in advance to ensure your spot. If you have reserved a spot and not yet paid, your spot may be given up to another student. In the event you need to cancel your space, I will provide a refund IF I am able to fill your spot. If I cannot fill your space, no refund will be issued.

To register for the Introduction To Machine Knitting class please call Stix and Stones at 705-223-8245 to make a secure payment over the phone with aVisa or Mastercard.
